Virtual Recording StudioAbout VRS
Thanks for taking some time to learn about the Virtual Recording Studio.
VRS is a system and website for producers, mixers and musicians to collaborate on original multi-track musical material.
About VRS 1.0
VRS is a program that has been kicking around in the VRS author's mind for more than 5 years. It has taken him more than a year to create in it's current form, and it is now ready for musicians, mixers and producers to use. Eventually we hope that VRS will provide a complete Virtual Recording Studio experience. But for now, we are very excited that the first stage of VRS is ready to use.

What Is VRS?
It is clear that digital creation, production, and distribution of music is now the standard. The widespread adoption of digital recording systems is obvious, and every day we move further away from physical music delivery (CD's, Records, Tapes) and more toward Internet delivery of music, such as the wildly popular iTunes/iPod model.
The piece that is still missing is a method of digital collaboration for bands, musicians, producers and mixers, which can facilitate multitrack digital recording projects using the Internet. Just like it's real world analogue (a brick and mortar recording studio), VRS strives to be a virtual meeting place for musicians to create music. In VRS, all musicians are "studio musicians", and VRS strives to create a place where different musicians can work together on multiple songs.
Now, an artist with a really great song is no longer limited by geographic location, in finding other "local" musicians that have the same musical tastes. Instead, artists can use VRS to collaborate with like minded musicians, whether they are in the same neighborhood or on different continents, using the magical ether of the Internet.

What VRS Is Not
VRS is not simply a bulletin board with file uploading. VRS has an integrated bulletin board (a great one called E-Blah) for those that like using a BBS for collaboration. And VRS also has real-time (IRC) chat, and comments sections - for collaborators that like those tools. And we encourage everyone to hang out at the BBS and to chat with other VRS collaborators. But VRS is so much more than just a modified BBS or chat system.
VRS is a system designed from scratch, to share and manage multiple tracks and mixes in the way producers, mixers and musicians would share and manage tracks and mixes in a physical recording studio. VRS is not simply a modified BBS, but rather a collaboration system designed and written from the very beginning to do one thing: To allow music collaborators in multiple locations to manage multitrack recording projects.
The great thing about VRS is that it breaks new ground, and VRS users are each a part of defining and improving this exciting new way of creating music. Just like the recording of a new song, VRS itself will grow and change as the creative VRS users define what works and what doesn't. In fact, we hope that each VRS user will take some time to suggest ways in which VRS could be better. And since we wrote VRS from scratch, we can change it.

A Little About Copyrights
Quoting from www.copyright.gov:
"The way in which copyright protection is secured is frequently misunderstood. No publication or registration or other action in the Copyright Office is required to secure copyright..."
"There are, however, certain definite advantages to registration..."
and...
"Copyright is secured automatically when the work is created, and a work is “created” when it is fixed in a copy or phonorecord for the first time..."
We encourage you to learn as much as you can about copyrighting your material. You can learn all about copyrights and the advantages of copyright registration at: www.copyright.gov.
We are believers in copyrights and the rights of artists. If you login to this system you agree to only upload music for which you are the rightful owner, or the rightful owner has given you permission to do so. You also agree not to share any songs, tracks or mixes you download, unless the song owner and the performer have given you express permission to do so.
If you do not agree to these terms. Do not login to this system.

But Wait... There's More!
This version of VRS is only the start.
Eventually we hope to develop technology to allow musicians to use VRS as an online recording system. We are starting with the VRS collaboration system, but there is so much more that can be done, and we hope to implement and grow VRS in multiple phases, to eventally provide a full online recording facility.
If this sounds like something you could use. Please click on the Signup link below. If you already have a VRS login ID and Password, click on the Login link below.
Thanks for using VRS! Now go make the next hit song!
